question
I'm still floundering around for my qeustion. I've learned in the last few weeks that my class of 3rd and 4th graders still need to become more comfortable writing paragraphs. I'm thinking of using some 4 square techininques in writing paragraphs. Like I said I'm floundering around. Any suggestions on helping me clarify my question would be appreciated. Michele

Michele,
ReplyDeleteYou will notice things all year long that your students need to work on. For TIC you need to focus on one thing for your project and stick to it! I think you've discovered that helping them write paragraphs with 4 square is it! So, even though you will continue to notice that they need instruction in other things, give that instruction but continue to work on your TIC question too. So, your question may be: What happens to 3rd and 4th grade paragraph writing when the 4 square method is taught in a mini lesson and then reviewed twice a week for 6 weeks?....something like that! you could collect their paragraphs each week and use that for data. You could also ask students to write a paragraph about anything they want for your first sample and compare that to the end of your 6 week work by asking them to write another paragraph about anything they want. Hope this helps!
Michele,
ReplyDeleteIt would also be interesting to see if student dispositions toward writing improve throughout the six weeks due to the intensive instruction. This could easily be determined by including dialogue journals as a formative assessment strategy. You could also gauge student understanding of instructed topics through this same strategy. Talk to you soon. Cherié
thank you both-I now feel that I have a direction with my project.
ReplyDeleteI can finally read your post Michele. Look how far you've come since this was written!
